Welcome!

I’m Elisabeth Biström, a Swedish watercolorist and Nobel Prize diploma artist.

My work centers around finding beauty in the overlooked—the everyday moments of places that don’t stand out at first glance, but are significant if we take the time to look closer.

Painting makes me pay attention to things that otherwise would have passed me by unnoticed. I hope my art can do the same for you.

Through art, we notice the remarkable in the ordinary and have a chance to experience life with more curiosity and appreciation.

Nobel Prize Diplomas

Between 2022-2024 I was commissioned by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences to create the artwork for their Nobel Prize Diplomas. Translating each laureate’s groundbreaking work into visual form was a creative challenge and an honor to get to do.

Reconstruction Sites

For the last five years, I’ve documented the reconstruction of an area in Stockholm called Slussen. Starting as a side-project during the covid pandemic restrictions, it has grown into a fascination with depicting scenes that rarely find their way into the art world.

Malmö Opera

I recently illustrated the programme for the current season for Malmö Opera, who asked me to paint an image that represented their mission to be an open and welcoming opera house. I hope my painting sparks curiosity and inspires visits to experience the joy and power of music at the opera.

Where it Started

I started painting watercolor in 1994 and had my first exhibition at age 14. Growing up in a small working-class town in northern Sweden, the art world felt impossibly distant.

After years of keeping art as a side practice, I decided at 36 to make watercolor my profession. Eight years later, it’s a decision I’ve never regretted.
